Ingredients

250 g plain flour extra for dusting

250 g wholemeal plain flour

1.5 tsp salt

1.5 tsp baking soda

450 g buttermilk

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees.  Dust a baking tray with flour and set aside.
  2. Place the flour, wholemeal flour, salt and bicarbonate soda in mixing bowl.
  3. Mix all ingredients well.
  4. Add buttermilk and mix.
  5. Tip the sticky dough out onto your floured board and bring together into a ball.
  6. Place on the prepared baking tray.
  7. Dust the loaf with flour.
  8. Cut an X across the loaf about 3 cm deep.
  9. Bake for 25 to 35 mins until the loaf sounds hollow when tapped underneath.
  10. Transfer to wire rack and allow to cool
